Dongjiang Hydropower Station is mainly composed of concrete hyperbolic arch dam, a down-the-hole ski spillway on both banks, an emptying spillway on the left bank, a spillway on the right bank, a wood-crossing highway and a factory building behind the dam. The dam height 157m is the highest concrete hyperbolic thin arch dam in Chinese mainland in 1980s. The dam is equipped with an automatic safety monitoring system. Its completion marks the maturity of arch dam construction in China.

The normal water level of the reservoir is 285m, with a total storage capacity of 865,438+200 million cubic meters, which has many years of regulation performance. The flood discharge structure adopts a relatively novel narrow gap energy dissipation method. The power station is located at the downstream of the dam, with a length of 106m, a width of 23m and a height of 55.1m.. It is the leading hydropower station with the largest water storage capacity and installed capacity among the main stream of Leishui 13 cascade hydropower stations. It has four hydraulic turbines, with a single capacity of125,000 kilowatts and a total installed capacity of 500,000 kilowatts. Power station is responsible for compensation regulation and peak regulation in central China power grid, which plays an important role in improving power grid quality. During joint operation, the output is guaranteed to increase to 300,000 kilowatts. The storage function of the reservoir can avoid the flood disaster of 30,000 mu of farmland downstream in general years, and raise the flood control standard of Zaoshi section of Beijing-Guangzhou railway to the level of 1 10,000 years. The backwater length of the reservoir area 160km can develop shipping. Jiang Xiaodong Hydropower Station is built at the exit of a 9-kilometer gorge downstream, forming an anti-regulation reservoir, which can ensure the navigation from Yongxing to Leiyang downstream to be improved when the flow is not less than 30 cubic meters per second.
