When Zeng Guofan conquered Tianjing, it caused a huge decrease in population, but in 1864. China's population reached 460 million in the year Xianfeng ascended the throne. This movement began in 1851. The 14-year war left China's economy in tatters. It was finally put down in 1864, leaving only 3 people in the country.
