The Origin of Ningmin Town in Ningxia

1997, in a place called Yuquanying in the west of Yongning County, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, there are large Gobi and continuous sand dunes. One day in April, the Fujian Provincial Leading Group for Counterpart Support to Ningxia visited Ningxia, and the responsible comrades of Fujian and Ningxia provinces agreed to organize and implement the cooperation between Fujian and Ningxia to help the poor and build a demonstration area for immigrants. A cooperation between Fujian and Ningxia that spans more than 2,000 kilometers and lasted for 20 years began.

Xihaigu area was identified as one of the most unsuitable areas for human survival by the United Nations Food Development Agency in 1972.

Nowadays, Ningmin Town has become a successful example of poverty-stricken areas in China moving towards a well-off society in an all-round way through counterpart poverty alleviation cooperation, and it is also a model of "Ning Min model" of counterpart poverty alleviation cooperation. It is devoted to the efforts of leaders at all levels in Fujian and Ningxia, and it is a microcosm of China's great project to help the poor.
