We originally planned to go from Jiangkou Town to Pengshui. But roads and bridges are being built here, and long-distance buses do not pass here.

After breakfast, we took the bus back to Wulong County. We broke up with the little girl in Wulong, and she took a train to Chongqing and transferred to a plane back to Tianjin. We took the 1:00 long-distance bus to Pengshui County.

In order to catch the boat to Gongtan Ancient Town, we took a taxi from Pengshui for 60 yuan to Wanzu Ferry, but we still missed the boat.

There are only three of us here, mother and daughter. We couldn’t find the ferry mentioned on the Internet.

They do not sail large cruise ships unless the tour group charters a boat to see the "Ten Mile Gallery"

It was getting late, so we had to beg the taxi driver to take us to a place where there are people.

So we came to Xiaohe Village halfway up the mountain.

Compared to Jiangkou Town, this place is sparsely populated. There are no hotels and only the village party secretary’s home can stay.

It was too late and we didn’t want to return to Pengshui County, so we had to stay here.

It is a very quiet small village. It turns out that they all live at the foot of the mountain. Because of the construction of Wujiang Power Station, their homes were flooded. The entire village immigrated to the mountainside.

The next morning we took a walk along the road?♀? until we reached the end. The mountains and rivers here are beautiful and the villagers are simple.

This 86-year-old woman, who is older than her mother, is still working for a living, carrying hundreds of kilograms of pigweed back home from the mountains.

My sister and I felt that this old lady was working too hard, so we helped her carry the load.

Today is a day of hardship. Since I didn't catch the cruise to Gongtan yesterday, I had to stay one night in Xiaohe Village, Wanzu.

It started to rain in the morning. Without tourists, the cruise ship would not send us to Gongtan.

It was very difficult to wait for the passing bus at the foot of the mountain, so I had to take the minibus from the village back to Pengshui County.

When we arrived in Pengshui County, the first long-distance bus to Gongtan had already left. We bought the 11:30 bus ticket, thinking that we would drive in an hour.

Unexpectedly, in a small and flexible county town, because there were too few passengers, the shuttle bus was delayed until 1 p.m.

The long-distance bus drove along the bank of Wujiang River. It was bumpy all the way, and we had to get off the bus and walk a while in the landslide area.

Finally at 3 pm, we arrived at our long-awaited destination, Gongtan Ancient Town.

Although it was still raining lightly, the beautiful smoky mountains and water made the trip worthwhile.

Gongtan Ancient Town is located at the intersection of Wujiang River and Apeng River, across the river from Yanhe County in Guizhou Province. It is the starting point of "Thousands of Miles of Wujiang River, Hundreds of Miles of Gallery" in Youyang County.

Gongtan Ancient Town originated from the Shu Han Dynasty

Gongtan Ancient Town has experienced thousands of vicissitudes ancient town. 1,700 years ago, Phoenix Mountain collapsed and debris flowed into the Wujiang River, forming a river beach.

During the Three Kingdoms and Tang Dynasties, a small town gradually formed. Ships from Chongqing and Fuling were stranded here, forming a large number of trackers to carry their fibers here, and a tracker's road was created.

During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, salt merchants gathered here, and the town gradually prospered. "Gongtan Ancient Town" is the first of the top ten ancient towns in Chongqing, carrying the inheritance of history and culture.

In 2006, Datang Telecom dammed and built a power station in the lower reaches of Wujiang River. China's thousand-year-old historical and cultural ancient town has sunk to the bottom of the river forever.

After three years of complete relocation, a new retro town was built here in 2009.

During the Guangxu period, Shaanxi businessman Zhang Pengjiu was the first to come to Gongtan to open a salt store and personally built the "Xiqin Guild Hall", which was a symbol of Gongtan's move towards a modern commodity economy.

At noon, my sister and I had enough to eat and had nothing to do, so we walked to the Wujiang River. Shouting towards the other side: Cross the river!

A ferryman came and took us to the other side of the river.

The Xinjing Township Government set up a ferry here, and the eldest brother and his wife have been operating it for more than ten years.

We take a ferry, which costs 2 yuan per person. Brother Ferry has many beautiful root carvings at his house, and selling root carvings is also part of their business income.

On the top of the mountain here, I heard that there is a village with 60 households.

We were determined to climb to the top of the mountain and see those homes.

However, it had been raining these past few days and the mountain road was too slippery. We were not wearing non-slip hiking shoes. Halfway through the climb, it was getting dark, so we had to give up halfway.

Standing deep in this remote mountain and looking at the bustling villages on the other side, there are two worlds here.

This side is still a sparsely populated impoverished mountainous area, while the other side is already a prosperous township.

The purpose of the government opening the ferry is to solve the transportation problem for children in the mountains here when they go to school.

There are more than 60 families on the top of the mountain, and children from Guizhou Province are studying in the primary school in Gongtan Ancient Town.

When we took the ferry back to Gongtan Ancient Town in the evening, we happened to catch up with a group of children who lived on the opposite mountain after school. They took the ferry for free.

We stood on the shore and watched them climb up the opposite mountain where we had just come down.

We did not reach the top of the mountain even after a lot of effort. In less than ten minutes, the little figures of these children in the mountains disappeared halfway up the mountain.

Tomorrow we will leave Gongtan Ancient Town and take a long-distance bus to Fenghuang Ancient City...
