Thousands of undocumented immigrants approved by the US Immigration Service are facing repatriation.
American immigration officials have already begun to prepare for large-scale raids on undocumented immigrants in San Francisco and other cities in northern Canada. Federal officials will arrest more than 1500 undocumented guests under the policy of "asylum country". At present, officials of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) declined to comment on the action plan.
According to sources, this action centered on the Bay Area may be carried out in a few weeks, which is expected to become the largest law enforcement action initiated by the government.
The goal of cleaning up undocumented guests this time is that California Governor Brown signed and promulgated the statewide asylum law from June 65438+ 10 last year. Supporters say the law allows undocumented immigrants to cooperate with local police and enjoy education, medical care and other public services without fear of being exposed and deported.
Thomas Horman, acting director of ICE, criticized Brown for signing the bill, saying that this practice undermined public safety and expressed his readiness to take action.
He said at the time that the federal government would not allow California to become a "refuge state for illegal immigrants", but it had no choice but to make large-scale arrests in local communities and workplaces, which would inevitably lead to additional incidental arrests.
Earlier this month, Horman told Fox News that "California had better hurry". He said that if local politicians "don't want to protect their communities, then ICE will protect them".
California Senator feinstein expressed indignation at this clean-up action plan, saying that immigrants "cannot be attacked because they are Californians." She said that the large-scale action will show that "the government is carrying out its law enforcement actions for political reasons, not based on national security."
It is reported that the statewide legislation signed by Brown restricts prisons from handing over undocumented prisoners to the federal government, and also prohibits the police from arresting people for immigration certificates.
ICE has repeatedly warned that if the agency cannot detain people in local prisons, it will be forced to arrest them in these policy communities.
In recent years, in cities such as San Francisco and Oakland, ICE has not carried out large-scale immigration cleaning activities. Last September, 27 people were arrested in Santa Clara County and 500 people were arrested in the national refuge cities. Last June, federal officials arrested 54 people in central California.
Pratheepan Gulasekaram, a professor and immigration expert at Santa Clara University Law School, said: "This is a bluff because California continues to boycott."
Gulasekaram also said that this raid will ruin many people's lives, but it is of little significance to public safety.
