The Kokang nationality is the Han nationality.

At the end of northern Shan State in Myanmar, at the bottom of southwest Yunnan in China, in an area far from the Central Plains, there is a Han nationality who has lived and multiplied here for more than 300 years. This Han nationality is the Han nationality who lives in and around Kokang, Shan State, Myanmar, and is called Kokang in Myanmar. Now Kokang is located in the northeast of Shan State, Myanmar, with an area of about 1 10,000 square kilometers and a population of about10.5 million. The courageous Chinese are not immigrants. They are all from Yunnan, and have lived in the Kokang area on the China-Myanmar border for generations. Due to the Sino-British Treaty signed on February 4th, 1897, the Qing court ceded Kokang to Britain, and these Kokang Chinese originally from China automatically became local minorities in Myanmar.
