You can drive in Macau with a Chinese driver's license, but there are currently restrictions on car types and are only applicable to light vehicles. Mainland residents who hold a qualified mainland driver's license can drive directly without registration for the first 14 days. If they exceed 14 days, they must register with the Public Security Police Traffic Department. Mainland residents cannot exchange for a Macau driver's license. Extended information: On April 16, 2018, the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region issued an administrative order authorizing the Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Luo Liwen, to sign an agreement with the Ministry of Public Security on behalf of the Macao Special Administrative Region and the Ministry of Public Security on the mutual recognition and exchange of motor vehicle driving licenses between the Mainland and Macao. In October 2017, the Macau SAR government announced preliminary plans and suggestions for mutual recognition of driver's licenses, stating that Mainland residents holding qualified driving licenses from the Mainland can drive directly in Macau; Macao residents holding qualified driving licenses can be exempted from taking the test in exchange for Mainland driving licenses and Driving light vehicles in mainland provinces.
