Does the cancellation of Australia's 457 visa affect the current holders?

Australian Prime Minister Turnbull announced on April 18 that the Australian federal government will cancel the 457 skilled work visa, aiming at increasing the employment opportunities of Australian natives, and the existing 457 visa holders will not be affected by this policy.

Visa 57 is a temporary technical work visa for four years established by the Australian government to introduce all kinds of overseas professionals. In the future, it will be replaced by a two-year temporary technical work visa and another four-year temporary work visa with higher professional skills.

In the past 20 years, the number of people who have obtained 457 visas every year has exceeded 654.38+0.2 million. Among the 457 visa holders, Indians account for nearly 1/4 at most, followed by British 19.5%, and the third is China with 5.8%.

Turnbull said that Australia is a diversified immigrant country, but Australian local workers should enjoy work priority. The new visa system will be implemented on the basis of considering national interests.

Australian Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said that these measures will change the nature of the original 457 visa opening, but will not affect those who have already obtained 457 visas. In order to increase local employment opportunities, the number of jobs applying for two-year temporary technical visas will also decrease.
