Relations between Saudi Arabia and Thailand

The relationship between Saudi Arabia and Thailand is not very good.

It started about 30 years ago. As we all know, since the popularization of oil, Saudi Arabia has changed from a poor desert country to a local tyrant country. Especially after the Middle East oil crisis, oil is bound to the dollar, and the United States is bound to Saudi Arabia. Then Saudi Arabia became richer. At that time, Thailand's economy was also very underdeveloped, so a large number of Thai workers worked in Saudi Arabia.

Among this group of Thai migrant workers, a young man named Jiang Kelai went to the Saudi prince's house to steal. After the Saudi prince found out, he immediately sent a diplomat to negotiate with the Thai Prime Minister, but the diplomat who went to negotiate had an accident in Thailand, so the Saudi official was very angry. Officials also said that the cause of this incident made the relationship between Saudi Arabia and Thailand not very good.

Status quo of Saudi Arabia and Thailand

Thailand's Minister of Labor Sucha and Saudi Arabia's Minister of Social Development and Human Resources Suleiman signed a letter of intent on resuming labor market cooperation between the two countries. The two countries will resume the labor cooperation that has been interrupted for more than 30 years from this month. It is reported that Saudi Arabia is the most favored labor market for Thai workers, and Thailand transports more than 200,000 workers to Saudi Arabia every year.

However, the theft of Saudi royal jewels more than 30 years ago downgraded the diplomatic relations between the two countries, and cooperation in various fields basically stagnated. Thai Labor Minister Sucha said after the signing ceremony that Saudi Arabia needs a large number of foreign workers, and Thai workers have advantages in the fields of construction, medical care, catering and health care. Therefore, compared with the previous contradictions, Saudi Arabia is more willing to accept the benefits brought by Thailand.
