Why did Tantoushan Island become a desert island?

Soil reasons. Tantoushan Island is located at 10 km in the east of Shipu Town and near Nantian Island in the southwest, with an area of 1 1.03 km2. The island looks like an iron anchor and is named after a mountain. According to official website, Tantoushan Island, due to years of over-exploitation, its soil nutrient rate has decreased, resulting in more and more residents moving away from the island, making it a desert island.
