Students from Iceland, Denmark, Sweden or Finland do not need a Norwegian student visa and do not need to register with the police. Students from the European Economic Area and the European Free Trade Association can study in Norway for up to 90 days without applying for a student residence permit.

The following students must apply for a Norwegian student visa

If they plan to study in Norway for more than three months, all other students need to apply for a student residence permit. If you have been studying in Norway for less than three months, and you come from a country that needs a visa to enter Norway, you still need a visa. The requirements and procedures for obtaining a student residence permit depend on your country of origin.

Three. Requirements for obtaining a Norwegian student visa

To get a Norwegian student visa, you must have been admitted to a college or university (with some exemptions). After receiving the admission notice, you should contact the nearest Norwegian embassy or consulate for information on the application procedure of study permit and apply from your country of origin. Although some candidates can apply online in Norway or through the Norwegian embassy, most students need to submit a paper application form to the nearest Norwegian embassy or consulate.

When submitting the application form for student residence permit, you must also provide passport and other necessary documents. You need to submit:

The processing time of student residence permit will vary, which may take about two months. I suggest you apply as soon as possible. If your application is approved, you must obtain a residence card. This proves that you have the right to live in Norway, which is issued by your local Norwegian police station. You need to visit the police station within seven days after you arrive in Norway. You will get fingerprints and photos, and your residence card will be mailed within 10 working days.

4. Student residence permit. What are you allowed to do?

When you get a residence permit for Norwegian students, you can also get a part-time work permit without additional fees, in addition to full-time study (up to 20 hours per week) and university holidays. You can renew your study permit at least three months before the expiration date through the online application portal Norway, and provide enough funds to support your own evidence and satisfactory progress in studying in Norway (your study progress report is provided by your teacher). UDI will also use your study progress report to confirm whether you can continue to get a work permit. You must make satisfactory progress in your studies before you can continue to work part-time.

If you can prove that this job is related to your study, you can also apply for a limited time full-time study permit. After completing your studies, you are eligible to apply for a residence permit of up to six months to obtain employment opportunities for skilled workers. You must be able to prove that you became a skilled worker while studying in Norway or received professional training before you moved to Norway, and then received further education in Norway.
