Can I apply for Hong Kong citizenship if I have a property in Hong Kong?
Anyone who has legally resided in Hong Kong for more than six months must obtain a Hong Kong identity card. Usually, the right of abode of "Hong Kong residents" is conditional. The most common ones are residents with work visas.
People who have lived in Hong Kong legally for seven years or more can apply to become "Hong Kong permanent residents" and obtain a "Hong Kong permanent identity card" (commonly known as "three stars" because there are three stars on the identity card to distinguish them).
"Hong Kong permanent residents" have no conditions to stay in Hong Kong. After becoming a "Hong Kong permanent resident", you can apply for a "Hong Kong Special Administrative Region passport". Passport holders of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region are China citizens who are protected by China's embassies overseas.
