In 2 years of the Republic of China (1913), the Taiping County Civil Affairs Office was renamed the Taiping County Governor's Office. In January of the 3rd year of the Republic of China (1914), in order to avoid having the same name as Taiping County in Anhui, Zhejiang and other provinces, it was renamed Yangzhong County, which means "the middle of the Yangtze River". Later, on May 18th, 1994, it was renamed Yangzhong City.
