How to convert Australian student visa and work visa?

Many students who have just studied in Australia don't know much about the work visa policy, and mistakenly think that student visas can be converted into work visas, or they can work indefinitely as long as they have a work visa. In fact, the Australian government has relevant policies and certain restrictions on overseas students working while studying in Australia.

Restrictions on student visas

When an overseas student studying in Australia gets a student visa for the first time, clause 8 10 1 will be indicated on the visa page, stating that students are not allowed to work in Australia, including part-time jobs.

Student work visa

The Australian Immigration Department allows overseas students to re-apply for visas after the start of the course, marked with clause 8 105. This clause means that students can work in Australia for no more than 20 hours per week, with no restrictions during the winter and summer vacations.

A student visa cannot be converted into a work visa.

This visa is still only a student visa, which is different from the usual work visa such as employer nomination for working in Australia. Moreover, for China students, student visas cannot be directly converted into work visas.

Apply for a student visa job.

Only after the course begins can you apply for a student visa that allows you to work. Students can apply directly on the website of the Immigration Bureau or in person. Either way, you need a letter from the school stating that the course has started, or a form of 157P, signed and sealed by the international department of the school.

Application tax number

To apply for this visa, students also need to provide TFN (tax file number), which is the tax number, to the immigration office. To apply for a tax number, you need to provide your passport and relevant residence certificate.

Work experience requirements

At present, many China students are studying TAFE courses, such as chef, beauty salon, auto repair and so on. Due to the requirement of 900 hours of work experience, students are required to work long hours. For such students, as long as there is a "work place" (work-study program) in the course and they are registered, the work is not limited by time.
