Plot introduction
The story happened in the late 1980s. Victor (Tom Hanks) is Slovenian. In order to escape the war in the motherland, he decided to immigrate to the United States and bought a plane ticket to the United States with simple luggage. He was stopped when he got off the plane at the Kennedy Airport Terminal in new york to get out of the airport. It turned out that there was a coup in his motherland and he became an enemy of the United States!
Victor's passport and identity documents, as well as immigration documents, were useless. He was detained at the airport. In an instant, Victor became an isolated man without a country and a home, and he became a victim of international political changes. During Victor's detention at the airport, he had only two choices: either to return to the motherland, but after the coup in his country, he no longer admitted that he was a national who had gone through immigration procedures; Either get a valid certificate and immigrate to the United States, but his certificate is obviously invalid and cannot be replaced.
Standing in this country that doesn't belong to him, Victor can't help but feel confused when he looks at strangers coming and going. In desperation, he can only stay at the airport, sleep in the chair in the hall, take a bath in the bathroom and make a living by serving passing passengers. All he has now is his illiberal body and a small suitcase, which contains a change of clothes, a razor and paid identification.
By chance, Victor meets the beautiful stewardess Amelia (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Amelia began to sympathize with Victor's experience, help him introduce some small jobs and negotiate with the airport. Slowly, she fell in love with this exquisite and honest man. It seems that a "blessing in disguise, a blessing in disguise" has been staged.
