Experts who hold opposing views believe that although there is no siltation in the lower reaches of the Yellow River at present, Xiaolangdi Reservoir will resume siltation after being filled with sediment. Although the "narrow river" has a high efficiency of sediment transport, it is difficult to get out of the predicament of "hanging river in the middle" because of its rapid siltation and uplift. Moreover, the current downstream flood control system has changed too much to be implemented lightly.
