The Origin and History of Chinatown

Chinatown is where China people live in other cities. The formation of Chinatown is due to Chinese emigrating overseas and becoming a local minority. Facing the new environment, they need to help each other in the same boat, so most Chinatown is a witness to the history of overseas Chinese.

Due to the great influence of the Tang Dynasty on overseas countries, in the Song Dynasty, "Tang" became synonymous with China in southeast overseas countries. From Song Dynasty to Yuan Dynasty to Ming Dynasty, foreign countries called China or things related to China "Tang". Not only "Tang" is synonymous with "China", but China people are also called "Tang people".

China people have a deep historical complex. The Tang Dynasty was a powerful dynasty in the history of China. Overseas Chinese often call themselves "Tangren", and the place where they live together is also conveniently called "Chinatown". Chinatown was originally named "Datang Street". 1673, Nalan Xingde wrote a miscellaneous note on the Green Water Pavilion: "In Japan, people have visited this place since the Tang Dynasty, and residents call it Datang Street, which is ten miles long today."

1875, Zhang Deyi called Chinatown "Tang Dynasty City" in Travel Notes Around Europe and America. In English, Chinatown is called China City. The history of Chinatown is centuries earlier than the English name Chinatown.

When ken Salazar)2005 moved to Washington in 2005, the newly elected senator chose to rent an apartment in Chinatown, rather than in more perfect areas such as Georgetown or Capitol Hill. It is reported that the city government of Sydney has made a brand-new plan for Sydney Chinatown, hoping to enhance this attractive tourist attraction and make the whole city of China in Sydney more colorful and attractive. At the same time, it also shows that the municipal government recognizes the contribution of overseas Chinese to Sydney's development and is a positive recognition of multiculturalism and Chinese economic strength.
