What is the origin of Shishi Gusao Tower?

Gusao Tower was built in Shaoxing during the Southern Song Dynasty. According to historical records, it was from that time that ancestors from Jinjiang and Shishi moved to the Philippines in large numbers. According to the Records of Quanzhou Prefecture, during the 650 years from the first year of Song Chongning (1 102) to the twenty-third year of Qing Qianlong (1758), there were1/kloc-0 droughts in Quanzhou, resulting in "many people starved to death". Trapped by wars, natural disasters and man-made disasters, a large number of villagers crossed the ocean and left their homes to make a living in the Philippines. Living abroad, my hometown calls overseas Chinese "Ke Fan", which refers to the guests who return to Tangshan from Fanbang.

Legendary story:

Legend has it that a long time ago, there was a farmhouse at the foot of Baogai Mountain in Shishi. After the death of parents, brother and sister lived alone. Later, my brother married his wife. The wife is very virtuous and good to her sister-in-law. Although the three people in the family live a poor life, they also live a dull but joyful life.

There was a severe drought one year, and there was no harvest without rain. Since ancient times, southern Fujian has been sparsely populated, unable to make a living in case of disasters, and has traveled to Nanyang in succession. My brother had to discuss with his wife and sister and followed his fellow villagers to Nanyang. My brother went to Nanyang and didn't go back to his hometown for several years, nor did he send a letter. Whether he is alive or dead, good or bad, really worries my aunt and sister-in-law. Aunt and sister-in-law often climb to the top of Baogai Mountain to see the sea, but they can only see a gray sea at a time. How can my brother return to China?

In order to see further, they carried stones again and again, piled up and piled up, forming a high platform. They stood on the stone platform, stood on tiptoe and kept looking for it, but month after month, year after year, my brother still didn't come back. One day, when they saw the children flying kites, they thought they could write a letter and tie it to the kite, so that it could float to Nanyang with the wind. But to fly a kite, you need a kite string. Two sisters-in-law cut off their long hair and twisted it into a kite rope.

This kite, tied with a letter from home, floated over Nanyang and fell to the ground. The book tied to the kite was picked up by the fans and passed on to my brother. It turns out that my brother didn't find any good way out after he arrived in Nanyang. He stayed outside and was ashamed to write home. After reading the letters written by his two sisters-in-law, he burst into tears and hurried back to his hometown.

On this day, the weather was fine, and they boarded the platform at the top of Baogai Mountain and looked out at the sea. After a while, the sea returned and the reunion of relatives was just around the corner. At this moment, however, the wind was blowing hard and the waves were huge, and the ship sank to the bottom of the sea. Sister-in-law looked at her husband and brother who were about to meet and died in the sea, crying and jumping off a cliff to commit suicide. Later, in memory of the two sisters-in-law, the villagers built a stone tower called Gusao Tower where the two sisters-in-law piled stones. This is a legend, of course, but the legend of Gusao Tower is a historical witness of overseas Chinese emigrating and a record of the deepest feelings in the world.
