Master of Actuarial Science in Australia ~

Detailed explanation of actuarial course recommendation for studying in Australia

Undeniably, the countries with the most mature actuarial system are the United States and Britain, but if we can't go because of objective conditions (such as visas, economic conditions, relatives, etc.), we suggest studying in Australia to study actuarial science.

First of all, schools

ANU (NSW) and Macquarie University (MQ) are one of the few universities that offer undergraduate actuarial courses (PS: If you want to go abroad for graduate actuarial studies, you'd better give up and make do at home, because undergraduate education is the key).

Personally recommend MQ for the following reasons:

1, MQ is the first university in Australia to offer actuarial courses, and it is also the best university at present. Many professors or tutors of actuarial courses in other universities are MQ graduates.

2. Compared with Canberra (the city where ANU is located), Sydney, as the largest city in Australia, has unique advantages, with more convenient transportation, shopping and leisure, and a more attractive city. If you have been to Beidaihe, even if you see the sea, the charm of overlooking Sydney Bay or strolling in Lovers Harbor or Mary Beach is paradise. Perhaps the only drawback is that the price level in Sydney is higher than that in Canberra.

As for ANU, its actuarial course is the best except MQ, mainly because the city is not good and too small, and basically all government officials live in it (PS: but compared with other cities, the capital has the best public security and low prices)

The actuarial course in NSW is only offered in recent years, and it is not professional. Its actuarial course is below the bachelor of business, and like accounting, marketing and other majors, there is only a bachelor of business on the diploma.

So generally speaking, compared with MQ and ANU, NSW's actuarial curriculum is not mature.

Second, the curriculum.

If you choose MQ to study actuarial science, I recommend the following degrees, all of which are four-year double degrees. Most actuarial students study double degrees, because they can complete the two courses of PART 2 in the fourth year. Graduated with a single degree in three years, and only completed the 1 part. If you want to be a professional actuary, then the second part is compulsory:

1, Bachelor of Commerce-Bachelor of Practical Research and Applied Finance. (hereinafter referred to as Yuba)

2. Bachelor of Commerce-Bachelor of Practice and Business-Accounting (hereinafter referred to as BCOM-ACST and BCOM-ACCG).

3. Bachelor of Commerce-Bachelor of Practical Research and Economics (hereinafter referred to as BCOM-ACST and BE).

4. Bachelor of Commerce-Bachelor of Practical Research and Computing (hereinafter referred to as BCOM-ACST and BC).

I am studying abroad from a long distance, and it is difficult to study actuarial science. I believe that everyone's purpose is not to make a living, but to have a good economic income. Consider the curriculum from two aspects, one is future employment and personal development, and the other is immigration.

Let's talk to Ba (I'm taking this course and now I'm a sophomore) about peace. If you are a person who is willing to endure hardships and has been excellent in past study experience (my home is in Beijing and the primary school is nearby. When I graduated, I was the only one admitted to the district key junior high school assisted by the private sector, and I didn't go to junior high school nearby. Junior high school students keep the top 5 in the class and the top 20 in the grade for three years. The luck of the senior high school entrance examination "broke out", and I met SARS, so I had a holiday at home all day, and I didn't want to review and perfunctory my homework. In the end, the score fell to a thousand battles, and he was selected by the sixth volunteer in Beijing with a score of about 50 points. He was unable to participate in the selection of experimental classes because of insufficient entrance scores. Affected by this, I repented, studied hard, entered the key class in Grade Two, and kept my grades in the top twenty in Grade Two. I suggest taking this course. However, the goal is not graduation, but the offer of an honorary degree in finance (the requirement is 300-level courses GPA3.0, all courses GPA2.5, out of 4). After graduation, I completed the first two actuarial courses and studied for an honorary degree in finance for one year (this honorary bachelor's degree is not available in China, but it is equivalent to a master's degree in Australia, but it is more popular than a master's degree. After graduation, you are eligible to study PhD Finance (PS: You are not eligible to study PhD after finishing your master's degree in Australia. But there is an honorary degree). PhDs don't necessarily study in MQ. Suggest going to SYD University or New South Wales. Of course, it is better to have the opportunity to go to America or Britain. Three years after graduation, congratulations, you have read the end of your life. If according to the normal admission age (6 years old), some things go smoothly without delay, then at the age of 26, you have graduated from the doctor. The world is big, you can go. The remaining task is to complete the third and final part of the actuarial course while working. As for why I study finance, because finance is closely related to the needs of non-life insurance actuaries and actuaries in charge of investment, there is an investment course in the third part of the course. Moreover, regardless of actuarial factors, this major has a wider range of employment and does not need to stick to the actuarial talent market with little relationship between supply and demand.

As for immigrants, to be honest, studying in Australia for so many years has earned so much tuition, and it is really a loss not to take identity. In addition, it must be said that the living standard and quality in Australia are much higher than those in China, and the Australian passport is also much more convenient. According to the above courses and the current immigration policy, when you graduate from undergraduate course in four years, your immigration score is 1 10 (PS: assuming IELTS score is above 7), then you can apply for PR after completing your honorary degree in 120. If you can't even get four sevens in the English exam, how can you immigrate after graduation (doctor plus immigration 15)?

Let's talk about the second development idea: read BCOM-ACST with BCOM-ACCG. Because I study accounting, I will take more classes, but accounting has a wide range of employment and will increase employment opportunities. Also, if your English is good enough, you can apply for PR directly for four years, 120 is enough. If you can't get into English, a master's degree is enough. It doesn't matter whether you continue to study for a master's degree or find a job, and then finish part 3. This course is universal, suitable for most students, and easy to immigrate and find jobs.

As for BCOM-ACST with BE, it is similar to the first one, but it is not as helpful to actuarial science as finance.

BCOM-ACST and BC are suitable for students with IT background or rich IT knowledge. Because it is also a 60-point major, if your English is good enough after graduation, you can also apply for PR directly.
