What is visa administrative processing?

Some visa applications need further administrative processing. During the interview, the visa officer will clearly inform the applicant that they will be subject to administrative treatment and will ask the applicant to provide some additional information and materials. For all applicants, the administrative processing of visa applications usually ends within six weeks after the interview. Once the processing is approved, the visa will be issued immediately.

Applicants should apply for a visa as early as possible to ensure that the final decision on their application is made before the planned date of going to the United States. Please don't confirm your plan to go to America until you receive your passport and valid visa. If extra administrative processing of visa application may cause you to miss the planned meeting, business trip or start date of work/study, please make appropriate arrangements with your employer or sponsoring school or institution.

If a family member and the main applicant apply for a visa at the same time, the family member's visa application cannot be approved before the main applicant's visa application is approved. We will bundle the application of family members with the application of the main applicant and return it together with the passport of the main applicant.

If you plan to go abroad while processing your non-immigrant visa application in the United States, please inform the consular officer that you need to keep your passport on the day of the interview. Once your visa application is decided, we will contact you and ask you to return your passport to our consulate. If approved, the passport with visa will be returned to the branch of China CITIC Bank designated by you, where you can collect your passport.
