In what era did Zheng Chenggong regain Taiwan?
Zheng Chenggong (1624-1662) was a famous national hero in my country in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. His original name was Fusong and Sen, and his nickname was Damu. He was a native of Shijing Village, Nan'an County, Fujian Province. His father, Zheng Zhilong, was the "Jian'an Bo" of the Longwu Dynasty of the Southern Ming Dynasty. He organized immigration to Taiwan and actively developed the island. In 1645 (the second year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty), 21-year-old Zheng Chenggong was summoned by Emperor Longwu Zhu Weijian in Fuzhou. He was highly appreciated and considered a member of the family. He was given the surname of the country (Zhu) and successfully changed his name. Therefore, he was respectfully called the "Master of the surname of the country" at home and abroad. . In 1653 (the 10th year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty), Emperor Yongli of the Southern Ming Dynasty (Zhu Youlang) named him "Prince of Yanping County".
Zheng Chenggong’s activities were launched during the transition of the Ming and Qing Dynasties in China and the invasion of the East by Western colonialists. In the autumn of 1646 (the third year of Qing Shun's reign), Qing soldiers attacked Fujian and Emperor Longwu was captured alive. Zheng Chenggong's father, Zheng Zhilong, controlled the military power of the Longwu court and led his troops to surrender to the Qing Dynasty, seduced by the traitor Hong Chengchou. Zheng Chenggong opposed his father Long Qing and led his troops to first raise troops on Nanwo Island in Guangdong, then advance to Gulangyu Island in Xiamen, and occupied Xiamen and Kinmen islands in 1650 (the seventh year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty). After that, they launched continuous battles with the Qing army, gradually regained the Zhang and Quan areas of Fujian, and controlled the southeastern coastal areas from Zhoushan, Zhejiang in the north, to Chaohui, Guangdong in the south.
In the summer of 1659, Zheng Chenggong led more than 100,000 naval troops northward, traced the Yangtze River through Zhoushan, and even conquered Guazhou, Zhenjiang and other cities. In July, he besieged Nanjing and fell into the Qing Dynasty's Jiangnan Governor Lang Tingzuo's plan to strengthen his troops, so he retreated to Xiamen. The following year, the Qing army attacked Xiamen in three groups, but was repelled by Zheng Chenggong. While Zheng Chenggong persisted in resisting the Qing Dynasty, he also launched a long-term struggle with the Dutch colonists who invaded and occupied our territory, Taiwan. The Dutch colonists invaded and occupied Taiwan in 1624 (the fourth year of the Ming Dynasty), brutally exploited and oppressed the Taiwanese people, and continued to harass the coastal areas of Fujian and Guangdong, arousing the incomparable indignation of the Chinese people. In 1652 (the ninth year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty), an anti-Dutch armed uprising led by Guo Huaiyi (the former subordinate of Zheng Chenggong's father Zheng Zhilong) broke out in Taiwan. In 1655 (the twelfth year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty), in order to protest against the plunder of the Dutch colonists at sea, Zheng Chenggong ordered a ban on merchant ships trading in Taiwan, which dealt a powerful blow to the Dutch colonists economically.
In April 1661, Zheng Chenggong ordered his eldest son Zheng Jing to defend Xiamen. He led 120 new warships and more than 25,000 soldiers, and vowed to march eastward to regain Taiwan at Liaoluo Bay, Kinmen. After a fierce naval battle, Zheng Jun sank the Dutch battleship "Hector" and recovered the "Red Chian Tower". In nearly a year of fighting, the Dutch army suffered nearly 2,000 casualties and suffered heavy losses. On February 1, 1662, the Dutch invading army was forced to surrender, and Taiwan, which had been occupied for 38 years, finally returned to the embrace of the motherland.
Zheng Chenggong died of illness in Taiwan on the eighth day of the fifth lunar month in 1662 at the age of 39.
