Koguryo Tomb and Koguryo Site

There are two kinds of stone tombs and earth tombs, which are mostly distributed in Fuer River, Hunjiang River and Yalu River, with Huanren Ji 'an being the most concentrated. Jishi tombs were popular in the 3rd-5th century, and Huanren tombs were earlier, both of which were Jishi tombs. Ji 'an tombs are relatively late, with stone tombs first and earth tombs later. Stone-accumulating tombs are sealed with gravel, gravel and stone strips. The general development sequence and form are: Jishi Tomb → Fangtan Jishi Tomb → Shifeng Cave Tomb (see Koguryo Jishi Tomb in Ji 'an). Generally arranged in rows along the direction of valleys or rivers. Earth-sealed tombs and stone-piled tombs appeared in parallel and crossed, which prevailed in the 6th century. The general development sequence and form are as follows: tomb with earthen chamber with altar → tomb with earthen chamber with platform → tomb with earthen chamber → tomb with earthen chamber. The earth-sealed tombs of the royal family and nobles are spacious and tall, with many exquisite murals. Among the mural tombs in Ji 'an, except one stone tomb, the others are sealed tombs, which can be divided into three periods from the middle of the 4th century to the beginning of the 7th century: ① The early period is from the middle of the 4th century to the first half of the 5th century, and the murals are mainly based on the life paintings of the tomb owner, painted on chalk stone walls, such as Jiaoda Tomb; (2) From the first half of the 5th century to the first half of the 6th century, in addition to the life paintings of the tomb owner, there appeared four gods, namely Qinglong, White Tiger, Suzaku, Xuanwu, Lotus, Buddha, Tian Fei and Bodhisattva, which reflected the Buddhist content, such as Sanjianfang Tomb and Changchuan Tomb 1. (3) From the middle of the 6th century to the beginning of the 7th century, murals were painted directly on the stone walls, with the four gods as the mainstay. From the murals, we can understand the history and culture of Koguryo, and we can also see the influence of Central Plains culture on Koguryo (see the mural tomb of Koguryo in Ji 'an).

The copper coins of the Warring States and the Western Han Dynasty unearthed from Jishi Tomb include bronzes such as ding, kettle, retort and bucket, as well as ironware such as Hua, sickle and axe, all of which are the same as those in the Central Plains during the Han and Wei Dynasties. The unearthed gold-plated utensils are beautifully made and luxuriantly decorated; Gold and silver are simple and exquisite; Yellow glazed pottery has rich and generous shapes.

In the mausoleum of Ji 'an, stands the famous King Tai Hao Monument, which is the tombstone of Wang Shuli, the birthday star who opened the ground for his father in 4 14.
