The history of Qilin Town

Qilin Town has a long history. Humans have been living here as early as 4,000 years ago.

During the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, a large number of immigrants moved here from Hongdong County, Shanxi and other places to settle here, and the village pattern was basically formed. In the spring of 1958, Xiaguantun Commune was built.

In 1978, the southern part of Xiaguantun Commune was placed under the newly added Xuefuji Commune.

In 1983, Xiaguantun Commune was renamed Xiaguantun Township.

In January 1996, it was renamed Xiaguantun Town.

In September 1996, Xiaguantun Town was renamed Qilin Town.

In 2001, the administrative division was adjusted and the original Xuefuji Township was merged into Qilin Town.

Qilin Town is the place where Lu Aigong "hunted for lins in the west" during the Spring and Autumn Period. It is also the birthplace of Qilin culture. According to historical records such as "Spring and Autumn" and "Historical Records", "Hunting for Huolin in the West" occurred in Dayeze (now Huolinji in the east of Juye County) in the western border of the State of Lu at the end of the Spring and Autumn Period. In the spring of the fourteenth year of Duke Ai of Lu (481 BC), Duke Ai was hunting in the wilds in the west. Shusun's chariot driver caught a beast with a body, an ox's tail, a horse's hooves, and meat on one corner of its head. He killed it strangely. Confucius looked at it and sighed: "It is a benevolent beast, Lin, who is here to come!" He made his disciples bury it. The old tomb still exists. Later generations built a high platform (now "Qilin Terrace") at Lin's burial place as a memorial. "Gongyang Zhuan" records: "The unicorn is a benevolent beast, the sage king's blessing!" Folks throughout the ages have believed that the unicorn is a symbol of beauty and auspiciousness. The appearance of Qilin is an auspicious sign of peace and prosperity.
