If the child is an American citizen, how can I bring the child back to China?
It doesn't matter whether you have American citizenship or not. The key is whether you have China nationality.
According to Article 5 of China's Nationality Law, a child born abroad has at least one parent who is a China citizen at birth, while the parents of a China citizen have not "settled in a foreign country" at birth, and the child automatically has China nationality at birth. Otherwise, the child has no China nationality.
If a child has China nationality, he/she must go to the China Embassy to apply for a China travel permit, which is equivalent to a China passport, proving that the holder is a citizen of China.
If the child does not have China nationality, he should apply for a Chinese visa at the China Embassy after obtaining an American passport.
