What kind of organization is the Shanghai Cooperation Organization?

The nature of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a permanent intergovernmental international organization.

Permanent establishment:

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization has two permanent bodies, namely, the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The Secretary-General of the Permanent Body and the Director of the Executive Committee of the Counter-Terrorism Structure are appointed by the Council of Heads of State.

The Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is the permanent administrative organ of the organization, providing administrative, technical and information guarantee for activities within the framework of the organization. The main functions include: assisting in organizing various meetings; Participate in the formulation of the draft documents of the organization; Assist in the implementation of resolutions and documents adopted by the organization.

Keep the documents and materials of the institution; Collect, organize and disseminate information about organizational activities; To prepare and implement the budgets of the permanent organs of the Organization; Communicate with other international organizations and countries on behalf of the organization.

The secretariat has 30 staff members. The Secretary-General is held by Member States in turn in the Russian alphabetical order of country names for a term of three years.
