According to the 80-year-old Yuan Tianxi from Mengzhuang Village, Jiuxian Township, the Shaoche River was originally called Shaoshui River and Wanquan River, and its name can be traced back to the Battle of Kunyang. After Liu Xiu defeated Wang Mang's army, he wanted to march into Wancheng. He captured the damaged chariots and supplies of Wang Mang's army and burned them in this river. Later generations renamed this river Shaoche River to commemorate the Battle of Kunyang. According to nearby villagers, where Liu Xiu burned his car, there is still a river with water that is half cold and half warm, similar to a hot spring. The Shaoche River meanders for nearly 10 kilometers and finally merges into the Li River. It is a tributary of the Li River. Since there are three small and medium-sized reservoirs built in the upper reaches, its water flow is not greatly affected by the flood season and it can always maintain a certain flow rate. During the dry season, more than 10,000 acres of fertile farmland along the coast can be irrigated with water, and the harvest is guaranteed despite droughts and floods. In ancient times, the Lishui Long Bridge was a major bridge on the official road and the only way to travel between Yunnan, Guizhou and Youyan. According to the memories of Shen Lao'an, an old man from Zhongcun in this township, the bridge played an important role in ancient times and was still passable in the early Republic of China. It was only later buried after it was washed away by floods.
