TOEIC or BEC?
1. Different R&D units. BEC was developed by ESOL, the Foreign Language Examination Center of the University of Cambridge, which also developed the IELTS test. BEC entered China in 1993. The TOEIC test was developed by ETS, the American Educational Testing Service, which also developed the TOEFL test; the TOEIC test entered China in 2002.
2. The examination items and applicable groups are different. The BEC exam mainly tests candidates' English communication skills in a purely business environment, including a lot of professional business English vocabulary and grammar. The TOEIC test mainly tests the English application ability of various occupations in real work scenarios and daily life environments, downplaying grammatical knowledge and focusing on practicality. BEC is a test only for business students or business professionals, while TOEIC is a test for all students and working professionals.
3. The practicality is different. European companies relatively recognize BEC, and American, Japanese and Korean companies relatively recognize TOEIC. Some British institutions recognize BEC scores for postgraduate applications, and TOEIC scores are required for applications to some Japanese and Korean universities.
