In 10, chinese canadians helped 5 12 poor girls in Gansu realize their dream of studying.
Tian is the chairman and founder. EGRC is the abbreviation of Canadian-funded rural girls' education in China. Since its establishment in 2005, EGRC has sponsored 5 12 female students in poverty-stricken areas in our province, including 390 college students and 1 12 high school students.
A woman's heart of charity
On March 30th, Tian and his party came to Yuzhong County, visited many families of aided high school students, and went to Enling Middle School to meet with 8 1 aided high school students.
For Tian, this trip is one of the "homework" she has to do every year since she was founded ten years ago. There is only one purpose, so that more caring people can understand the present situation of rural areas in Gansu and help more female students.
On the morning of April 4, the reporter met Tian in Lanzhou. She is small and thin, with short and capable hair. She speaks slowly, but gently and concisely.
As the founder and chairman, Tian has an indissoluble bond with Gansu.
She was born in 1952. In the 1970s, she followed her mother to live in Longxi County, our province, and lived there for 8 years. At that time, Tian often saw that many local girls were going to get married because of poverty, 10 years old, and the bride price was used to marry their brothers or younger brothers.
1983, Tian immigrated to Canada, got married, had a pair of children, opened a gallery in Vancouver, and his economic conditions improved a lot. After her life gradually settled down, Tian wanted to do something meaningful for the girls in poor rural areas in China, because she would often think of those girls in poor rural areas in Gansu who had been unable to go to school. Tian can deeply feel those girls' desire for learning and understand their plight of not receiving education. At the same time, she is increasingly aware of the importance of women's education to children, families and society.
Tian told reporters that once, she participated in a benefit performance organized by her daughter's school to help African girls go to school. Up to now, she still clearly remembers what a United Nations official said at that charity performance: "If a woman is educated, her descendants will certainly be educated." This sentence made her think a lot and strengthened her belief in helping poor girls in rural areas of China to go to school.
In March 2005, Tian came to poverty-stricken areas in Gansu from Vancouver at his own expense to realize his wish. After returning to Canada, she initiated the establishment of the Canadian-funded Rural Girls' Education Association (EGRC), which was registered with the approval of the Canadian government and headquartered in Vancouver. Later, Tian sold the gallery that he had been running for more than 20 years and devoted all his energy to his work.
The funds raised by EGRC mainly come from overseas. Every year, she organizes various activities to raise money for EGRC, including distributing publicity pages, holding concerts with the content of helping students, attending charity parties, etc ... With Tian's unremitting efforts, her popularity in Vancouver is getting higher and higher, and more overseas caring people are involved in helping poor female students in Gansu.
During the 65,438+02 years from 2005 to 2065,438+05, EGRC supported 565,438+02 female students in poverty-stricken areas such as Longxi, Minxian and Yuzhong in Gansu, including 390 college students and 65,438+065,438+02 high school students, with a total amount of 65,000. Up to this year, 247 college students have successfully graduated, 24 of them continue to study for master's degrees, and 2 students have won scholarships with excellent results and the opportunity to go to Canada for further study.
The power to change fate
On the day of the interview, the reporter came across several female students who have received or are receiving EGRC funding. When they heard that Tian came to Lanzhou, they all came to visit.
"Aunt Tian" and "Mother Tian" are their most cordial names for Tian.
Because of the support of EGRC, their fate turned for the better.
Huang Lili, 28, comes from Mawan Village, Longxi County. She is the eldest of three children in the family. Thinking of the 2007 college entrance examination, she admitted that she was "unbearable to look back".
Huang Lili's parents are farmers. One month before the college entrance examination, her parents had a traffic accident while riding an agricultural vehicle. Her father was in a coma and her mother was seriously ill in bed, which put the poor family in crisis. Huang Lili, who has been concentrating on reviewing the college entrance examination, began to rush between two hospitals in Longxi and Lanzhou, suffering from unimaginable psychological pain and pressure of her peers. In the same year, my younger brother, who was four years younger than himself, was going to take the senior high school entrance examination.
A month later, the doctor pulled his parents back from death, but the family spent more than 200 thousand before and after, and the family was in trouble. After that, Huang Lili got the admission notice of Chang 'an University with a score of more than 580 points. But in the face of his younger brother who was admitted to the ideal high school with excellent results, Huang Lili fell into despair.
Seeing that the school day is getting closer and closer, just as the two brothers and sisters are about to give up their studies, Huang Lili suddenly received a phone call from the Education Bureau of Longxi County, indicating that a charity organization is willing to fund her and help her complete her college studies. After that, I met Aunt Tian for the first time.
In the next four years, Huang Lili received 5,000 yuan from EGRC every year, and her brother went to high school as he wished. 20 13 After graduating from Chang 'an University with a master's degree, Huang Lili entered Lanzhou Institute of Technology as a teacher, and his younger brother was successfully admitted to Sichuan Music Teachers College. ...
"I can't use words to describe my gratitude to Aunt Tian. Her appearance saved me, saved my brother and saved a family that lost hope! " While speaking, Huang Lili's eyes turned red.
There are many stories like this among the recipients.
Jin Min, a 27-year-old native of Yuzhong, Gansu Province, began to receive funding from EGRC in 2008 and successfully completed her university studies in Qingdao. 20 12 after graduation, start your own business. She said that Aunt Tian not only helped herself financially, but also benefited from her spiritual encouragement. "Children in rural areas have never been far away and don't understand the outside world. Before going to college, Aunt Tian told us that if we couldn't, we should study. Don't be afraid. " She said that it was this kind of encouragement that made her feel inferior in Qingdao, because she came from the northwest countryside. On the contrary, she works harder and is more optimistic than others. Take entrepreneurship as an example. Many college students want to do it and have no courage, but she is not afraid.
Zhang Yunxia, who just graduated from Tongji University with a master's degree, has now found a good job in a real estate company in Shanghai. Zhang Yunxia said that Aunt Tian gave her the opportunity and motivation to move forward. For Zhang Yunxia, Aunt Tian's help is not only a regular subsidy for tuition and fees every year, but also a source of her confidence. Zhang Yunxia said that when she first entered the university, she went from a little girl in the countryside to a neon-lit city, and she was always at a loss and lonely. After four years in college, Aunt Tian opened a window for her through rich experience and broadened her horizons. After graduating from college, she participated in some enterprise training activities with the help of Aunt Tian, and had the opportunity to communicate with more people. ...
Because of Tian, they finally changed their fate. Tian gave them not only a grant, but also a kind of strength, encouraging them to stick to their ideals and work hard.
Let love continue.
The purpose of EGRC is to fund four-year undergraduate education for poor female college students in western rural areas of China, three-year senior high school education for poor female high school students in western rural areas of China, and overseas study for China undergraduates funded by EGRC.
Since 2005, Tian has been making unremitting efforts for this goal. She said: "The most meaningful thing I have done in my life is to give these outstanding girls who are eager for this opportunity through my efforts over the years. It's like passing a baton. I hope that they will give this precious educational gift to more people in the future. "
Tian's ten-year persistence deeply influenced Chen. He graduated from the Chinese Department of Northwest University on 20 10, which was also funded and the first graduate hired. Originally, she had her own career plan, but when she saw the recruitment information of EGRC, she did not hesitate to write a letter of recommendation and joined the EGRC team.
Chen told reporters that she always felt guilty because she was far away from home and could not contribute to her family. Working for EGRC in Gansu will give her a chance to return to her hometown. She wants to encourage those girls who have had the same experience as her to start the road of self-reliance, self-improvement and self-confidence.
In Chen's words, this job is not a simple job, but a career worth spending time and energy on. This motivation comes from aunt Tian and. EGRC helped her in the past. Now, as a member of EGRC, she is going to help girls in other poor mountainous areas in the west. This is the spirit of EGRC. Everyone she helped.
