The terrain of Tieling city is characterized by high schools in the east, low in the north, low in the south and slightly higher in the west. There are mountains and hills on the east and west sides, and the Liaohe Plain in the middle, which flows slowly from north to south. Cities can be divided into two landforms: hilly areas in the east and low hilly plain areas in the west of Liaohe River.

The eastern hilly area is located in the east of Harbin-Dalian highway, which is an extension of Changbai Mountain to the south. The terrain gradually decreases from east to west, mainly including Tieling County, Changtu County, the eastern part of Kaiyuan City, Xifeng County and Qinghe District, covering an area of 6,800 square kilometers, accounting for 52.3% of the city's total area.

In the total urban area, hills and hills account for about 40%, plains account for about 45%, and rivers and others account for about 15%, which is roughly "four mountains and half water, four and a half fields, one road and one manor".
