The school-running model of Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology

The Guangdong Province and Shantou Municipal Government will allocate 900 million yuan and a land area of ??330,000 square meters to support the construction and initial operating expenses of the college. The new campus of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology will be built next to the campus of Shantou University. Professor Peretz Lavie, President of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, and Professor Gu Peihua, Executive President of Shantou University, signed a memorandum of cooperation in Tel Aviv, Israel, under the witness of the founder of the foundation, Li Ka-shing, and jointly founded the Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. The memorandum of cooperation will be submitted to the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and relevant Chinese authorities for approval.

Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology will launch undergraduate bachelor's degree programs in civil and environmental engineering and computer science in the 2014 academic year. Teaching will be in English and faculty will be recruited from researchers at universities around the world. During the construction of the school building, the first batch of students will complete the first two years of courses at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and return to the Chinese campus to continue their studies in the third year.

Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology will join forces with Shantou University to promote life science and technology research based on big data in 2014 to improve social and people's livelihood issues such as China's medical system services and clinical diagnosis. By 2020, other disciplines including mechanics, materials, chemistry and aircraft engineering will be added to the new school.
