The predecessor of the college was Baoji University (undergraduate, later discontinued) founded in 1958. In 1992, with the approval of the former State Education Commission, Baoji Normal College merged with Baoji University, which was newly established in 1984, and was renamed Baoji College of Arts and Sciences.
