Xinjiang Institute of Light Industry has two campuses. The north campus is located at No.82, Lane 4, Midong Road West, Kaziwan Street, Midong District, Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and the south campus is located at No.Zhujiang Road 10, Shayibake District, Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Founded in 1958, the college was transformed into a higher vocational and technical college at the junior college level in June 2000. It is the first batch of higher vocational colleges in Xinjiang, which belongs to the Department of Industry and Information Technology of the Autonomous Region.

In terms of specialty setting, up to now, there are 3 colleges 10, 58 higher vocational majors and 5 applied undergraduate majors, among which the school has 9 national key majors, 4 national key majors and 9 autonomous regional specialty (excellent specialty).

The College firmly adheres to the socialist orientation, adheres to the school-running philosophy of "combination of work and study, integration of knowledge and practice" and the school-running orientation of "based in Xinjiang, focusing on southern Xinjiang, facing the secondary industry and serving the development of Xinjiang's borders", and has formed a professional cluster system of food, chemical industry, textile, electromechanical and other fields, and trained a number of highly skilled technical talents urgently needed by Xinjiang's economic and social development.
