Turpan is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, located in the middle of the autonomous region. It is an olive-shaped intermountain basin in the eastern Tianshan Mountains, surrounded by mountains, and belongs to a typical continental warm temperate desert climate. Located in the hinterland of Eurasia, it is the gateway of Urumqi and an important transportation hub of the New Silk Road and the Eurasian Continental Bridge.

Lanzhou-Xinjiang Railway and South Xinjiang Railway meet here, forming a three-dimensional transportation system integrating "highway, railway and aviation" with Turpan Airport and G30. It has the advantages of "connecting north and south, connecting east and west, and from west to east", and the transportation is convenient, realizing the regional economic integration of Urumqi and Turpan. The first, second and third lines of west-to-east gas transmission, the Asia-Europe optical cable, the second optical cable out of Xinjiang, and the 750 kV power transmission and transformation line from west to east run through the whole territory. On June 20 17, 10, it was awarded as a national garden city.
