How long is the shelf life of lubricating oil storage?

After on-site inspection, technicians found that the released oil was gray-white mud, which basically had no lubricating oil properties. After heating, it was found that the "sticky substance" contained a certain amount of water, and it was preliminarily judged that the oil was emulsified and deteriorated due to water inflow. After sampling and analysis, the data show that the "stock solution" contains 10% moisture, while the moisture index of new oil is normal. It has been verified that vehicles often wade on the road surface, and the oil filling hole of the rear axle is loose, which leads to oil emulsification and vehicle failure. Once the vehicle gear oil enters the water, emulsifying phenomenon will appear, the oil will be in a milky foam state, and the service performance of the gear oil will also decline. Water will decompose the additives in gear oil, which will lead to the decline of additives' functions and lubrication failure. I would like to remind all drivers and friends that water enters the gear oil of vehicles, usually because when washing cars or wading vehicles, the water enters through the vent and oil filler of the rear axle. If your car wades frequently, you should always check the rear axle. If oil emulsification is found, replace it with new oil immediately. Lubricating oil is different from ordinary food and medicine, and has no strict shelf life. Because the performance of lubricating oil is relatively stable, as long as it is stored properly, it will generally not affect its use. Therefore, the state does not stipulate the shelf life or validity period of lubricating oil. However, the "Great Wall" brand lubricating oil products produced by the Lubricating Oil Branch of China Petrochemical Co., Ltd. have been tested for a long time and have been verified by users. Under the normal storage conditions of room temperature sealing, dustproof, waterproof and chemical smoke prevention, the oil products have been stored for more than three years, and all indexes have not changed. 1) The ideal storage space for canned and barreled lubricating oil is indoors. Lubricating oil in small barrels and any opened packages must be stored indoors to avoid being affected by climate change. 2) 200L oil drums placed in the open air should be placed horizontally, and both sides of each row of oil drums should be fixed with wooden wedges to prevent rolling. Be careful that the oil drain on the end face is not on it. Water has a bad effect on any lubricating oil, so always check whether the oil drum leaks oil. If the oil drum must be placed upright, it is recommended to turn the oil drum upside down so that the mouth of the drum faces down; Or tilt the bucket slightly with the oil drain above to prevent rainwater from accumulating on the bucket surface and infiltrating. 3) Too low or too high temperature may affect the quality of lubricating oil, so lubricating oil should not be stored in overheated or supercooled places for a long time. 4) When the lubricating oil enters the dust and water due to poor storage, it may produce turbidity and precipitation, so it should be stopped immediately. 5) The warehouse storing a large amount of lubricating oil should also deliver the goods according to the principle of "early entry and early exit".
