How was Chongming Island formed?

Chongming Island was formed by sediment deposition in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River in the early stage, and was reclaimed by human beings in the later stage! Influenced by the earth's deflection, Chongming Island has formed today's shape!

Chongming Island, located at the mouth of the Yangtze River, is the third largest island in China. Known as "the gateway to the Yangtze River and Yingzhou in the East China Sea", it is the largest estuarine alluvial island and sand island in the world.

Dongtan Migratory Birds Reserve is located in the east of Chongming Island, starting from Tuanjiesha Sluice in the south, reaching Baxiaogang in the north, bounded by the dike built by 1968 in the west and 3000 meters to the outside of Wusong elevation zero meter line in the east. It is a wildlife resource base in the Yangtze River estuary, with a total area of 326.2 square kilometers. On August 9th, 2005, Chongming Dongtan Bird Living Area was approved as a national nature reserve by the State Council.

Chongming Museum is an important cultural tourist attraction and patriotic education place in Chongming Island. Located in Gong Xue, Chongming, No.696, Aoshan Road, chengqiao town, covering an area of 1.55 hectares.

Lotus Garden is the only antique garden in Chongming, and it is known as the Pearl Mini Park of Baodao. There are walls, cornices, tiles and bronze rings outside the garden. Fengle Building on the east and west sides, with double eaves and octagons, has a simple style.
