Where does Bozhou tobacco belong?

Tobacco was first produced in the West Indian Ocean Islands, and was introduced to Britain in 1585, and to China in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. Tobacco planting in Bozhou, Anhui Province began in Qingganlong for three years, about a century later than that in Fujian and other coastal areas.

In the 1940s, Bozhou tobacco planting area was nearly 5,000 mu, which was a famous growing leaf area at that time. The varieties are Citi Smoke, Emei Bridge, Taipingban, Puzi and Laolaihong, but many of them have been lost today.

After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), the state set up a tobacco purchasing station in Bozhou, which belongs to China Tobacco Industry and Tobacco Company. In 1970s, the planting area of the whole city reached120,000 mu, accounting for more than 80% of the total area of Fuyang, and it became the main tobacco-producing area in Anhui Province, with standardized planting management. The main varieties are Red Heart 1, Changjinghuang, Laolaihong, Burley Tobacco, Caoxin No.5, Xiang Ying 1, Xu Jin No.4, Panhuangyuan and Honghuadajinyuan. By the 1980s, the area had expanded to 240,000 mu.

Bozhou tobacco is characterized by large leaves, good color, high oil content and strong fragrance.
