Cao Cao’s tomb, Anyang Gaoling, is located in Xigaoxue Village, Anfeng Township, Anyang City, Henan Province, 12 kilometers west of the north city of Ye, the capital of Cao Cao. According to historical records such as "Three Kingdoms", Cao Cao died in Luoyang in 220, and his coffin was buried in the hills west of the Ximen Leopard Temple in Yecheng.

The State Administration of Cultural Heritage stated that "the archaeological excavation, academic identification and publication of research results of Cao Cao's Gaoling were in compliance with archaeological work regulations." Individual scholars such as Xu Pingfang, a member of the expert group of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, Yuan Jixi, an expert on Wei, Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties literature, Zhang Guoan, a doctor of Wei, Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties history from Beijing Normal University, and Ni Fangliu, a researcher on the history of Chinese tomb robbing, hold controversial opinions on Cao Cao's tomb. However, since most of the doubters are not people in the archaeological industry, they are not authoritative. In March 2018, the Henan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archeology released the 2016-2017 archaeological discoveries of Cao Cao's Gaoling Mausoleum, and Cao Cao's remains were basically confirmed.
