Study abroad experience: apply for a Chinese teacher in an American university.

Since I came to the United States with my family, I have been paying close attention to teaching Chinese as a foreign language. When I found out that a university wanted to recruit a Chinese teacher, I sent the relevant resume. I didn't expect to get the news soon and asked me to go for an interview.

During the interview, there were four tenured professors sitting in the small classroom. I know that they are all professors of linguistics who got their doctorates in top American universities. They first casually asked me where I came from, and then asked me about my education. I said I was a graduate student, a dignified professor with glasses said, then we can start the interview. I joked that if I didn't have a master's degree, I couldn't apply here. Of course. She said without hesitation. You see, Americans are so straightforward. Therefore, the professors began to "strictly interrogate" me, first to check my teaching experience in China, and then to check my understanding of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Then, they asked me about my understanding of the relationship between language and culture in teaching, and I carefully understood how I used multimedia teaching in universities in China. I was a little nervous at first, but I think it's an exercise to accumulate experience for finding a job in the United States in the future. So, I answered them calmly and freely in fluent English. I found that the professors all agreed with my answer and the expression on their faces gradually softened. Finally, some professors smiled on their faces.

More than an hour passed, and my interview finally ended. After a break of 15 minutes, the next round of traditional projects begins. Haha, speaking Chinese to Americans is my strong point. I have taught Chinese as a foreign language in top universities in China for so many years and have taken countless classes. Am I still afraid of giving lectures? I come from China. No matter how high your academic level and foreign language level are, can your Chinese match mine? So, I walked into the classroom with a smile. First, I showed the students an MTV of China's most popular song, with wonderful pictures, high-rise buildings, buildings combining ancient and modern, and the youthful and positive image of modern young people in China, which gave the students an intuitive impression of modern China. After the release of MTV, American students showed great interest in China. At this time, I started my teaching Chinese as a foreign language from the simplest dialogue. During the lecture, I fully interacted with the students and actively mobilized their participation. The atmosphere in the whole teaching process is extremely warm. The professors who are listening have joined the students at this time. I found that they are actually like a group of students with a strong thirst for knowledge, and they are also very cute. In a blink of an eye, I found it was time to finish class, so I briefly reviewed and summarized what I said today. Finally, I asked the students, do you know what four tones are? American students opened their eyes curiously, waiting for me to tell them, haha, leave some suspense. I'll tell you next class. At this time, the classroom was quiet. Suddenly, there was warm applause. Everyone fully affirmed my lecture. The professors came over to shake my hand and hug me. I found that when they looked at me, their faces were already smiling. Haha, I conquered these arrogant American professors with my confidence and strength.

That evening, I received an email from the dean of the department, expressing my recognition of my teaching ability and giving a high evaluation. He welcomed me to teach here and gave me a satisfactory salary. I finally got the position of teaching Chinese as a foreign language in America.
