How long does it take recruiters to read your resume?
In the past, you could actually read every resume. People usually only apply for jobs that they think are suitable, so the human resources department has at least a reasonable expectation that if someone takes the time to submit a resume, it is because they at least think they are qualified.
This is no longer the case now. Automated services are publishing resumes based on keyword matching results, which inundates the inboxes of human resources personnel and wastes their time. If these people have really read the job descriptions, their names will not be put in their resumes.
I recently posted an advertisement looking for Facebook marketers; Advertising is very specific because we are looking for people with specific skills. We use phrases such as "secret posts" and "accurate interest positioning". We clearly stipulate that we only recruit applicants with experience in the consumer goods industry, and the marketing budget that we have worked with Facebook before has exceeded $654.38 million. We know that we are looking for a full-time employee who can work in our office, not an agent or a remote worker. We even shouted loudly that this is a market positioning, not a "social media manager".
What have we got? Hundreds of services submit their resumes automatically. These services use keywords to submit resumes of people who do not meet the job requirements at all. They have never read the job description and may not even realize that their resumes have been sent to us.
Most of the submissions are people looking for jobs as social media managers. The second most common submission comes from an agency (or more accurately, an individual who wants to sue himself as an agent). The third most common person is someone with Google and Bing experience, and their resumes don't mention Facebook advertising experience.
My favorite person is a person who manages 100 USD marketing expenses for the "multi-channel strategy" of non-profit organizations (including Facebook, Google and Bing) every day. So, how about $33 per platform? We spend $70,000 on Facebook ads every week. Have you seen a job position?
Literally, there are hundreds of spam messages coming in. In fact, only four spam messages meet the standards we want. I'm not saying that we like four people, but four people who actually meet the minimum requirements quoted in the post.
But I will tell you that the submitted materials highlight whether the individual is ultimately suitable. This is a brief introduction that a person sends his resume as an attachment to HR, not a submission tool on the job search website.
There is a 100% chance that the email will be opened. This means there is a right way and a wrong way to do it.
If the body of your email is general, such as "My resume is attached, etc." . That's not that interesting.
If you throw the whole resume into the body of the email, it will be less interesting. Read the whole email from beginning to end until it is finished.
Job seekers stand out, including a very short introductory paragraph, indicating that they have actually read the job description, have relevant experience to qualify them, and are familiar with the company and products. The resume is attached.
"I know you are looking for someone to manage your advertising campaign on Facebook. I used to work in (XYZ), and we spent about [$ X] every week, and got a return on investment of 3-5 times. I hope to take action, and I am willing to have a high-level dialogue on the goals of your. My resume is attached. "
Short, sweet and to the point. Guess who is at the front of the interview. ...
You have six seconds; This is your elevator spacing.
Do you want these six seconds to be used by others to browse your resume and make quick judgments accordingly? Or do you want them to spend some sentences summarizing why they want to read your whole resume and talk to you?
Think about it.
Don't let others do the same thing. If you only spend six seconds introducing yourself, you won't expect to get more than six seconds in return.
