What do Shanghai and Nanjing mean?

Shanghai Nanjing refers to Nanjing Road in Shanghai, which is the earliest commercial street established after the opening of Shanghai. East from the Bund, west to Yan 'an West Road, across Jing 'an and Huangpu, with a total length of 5.5 kilometers. It is divided into two parts, east and west, with Tibet Middle Road as the boundary.

1945, after the national government recovered all concessions from foreign powers, Nanjing Road was renamed Nanjing East Road and Jing 'an Temple Road was renamed Nanjing West Road.

So Nanjing Road in a broad sense includes two of Shanghai's top ten commercial centers: Nanjing East Road and Nanjing West Road.

Nanjing East Road (including Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street) is mainly a cheap commercial area and a tourist area; Nanjing West Road (including Jing 'an Temple) is the most expensive and luxurious commercial street in China, with luxury goods and high-end personalized consumption as the mainstay.

The four major department stores in Nanjing Road, old Shanghai, have created countless precedents in the Asian department store industry: the earliest use of escalators in department stores, the earliest use of air conditioning systems in department stores, the earliest issuance of receipts, the earliest unification of service personnel, and the earliest integration of department stores with other restaurants, cinemas, variety shows and other formats.

It is a treasure house where thousands of businessmen gather, a window for Shanghai to open to the outside world and a paradise for shoppers at home and abroad.

The commercial buildings on both sides are row upon row, which is extremely prosperous. Great changes have taken place in Nanjing Road since the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC). Modern large-scale high-rise buildings such as Laojiefu Commercial Building, Hualian Department Store, Radio and Television Building, Light Industry Building, Shanghai Center, and Golden Warehouse Mandarin Hotel make Nanjing Road more beautiful and prosperous. The sentry under neon lights-"Good Eight Company on Nanjing Road" is a beautiful landscape.
