This paper introduces the basic ways of student work in Spain.

At present, studying in Spain has become a craze. China's trade with Latin America and Spain is becoming more and more frequent, so the demand for Spanish talents is also growing, prompting more and more American students to choose Spain to study. Spain's comfortable climate, colorful culture and rich experience in studying abroad have made many international students decide to stay and work in Spain after graduation.

As an international student, there are generally two ways to work in Spain. One is to apply for a student internship permit, and the other is to apply for a work residence.

Student internship permit

Holders of student residence permits are not allowed to take part in gainful employment, unless the work the student is engaged in does not conflict with his study, and the income from the work is not enough to pay for his living expenses in studying in the West, and an internship permit agreement must be signed with schools and internship enterprises before starting work.

Students can work after obtaining the internship permit. This kind of work contract is generally part-time and the hours are limited. If there is a full-time work contract, the working hours cannot conflict with the students' study time, that is, they can only use the holidays to do full-time, and the specific internship time depends on the regulations of the school. Moreover, the validity period of the work permit granted can only be the same as the student residence period of the student at most, and shall not exceed the validity period of the student ID card. Therefore, the work permit must be updated at the same time as the student residence is updated.

Work residence

After three years of uninterrupted study in Spain, international students can seek formal employment opportunities in Spain through various channels. If they reach an agreement with the enterprise, they can ask the enterprise to apply for work and residence in the Ministry of Labor. At this time, it is first necessary to sign a preliminary contract with the enterprise.

Even if enterprises are willing to help international students apply for work permits, not all applications can be approved, but depend on other important factors and relevant certificates. For example, international students must be able to provide proof of study and achievements in the past three years, as well as three years of uninterrupted historical residence certificate records. In addition, enterprises that sign employment preparation contracts with international students must also meet certain conditions. Enterprises must have a certain economic strength, have never had a bad record of tax evasion and illegal employment, and can provide applicants with jobs corresponding to their majors.

Finally, the applicant must also pass the document review of the Immigration Bureau to prove that the applicant has a considerable level of Spanish and professional knowledge, and then he can finally be approved to change his student residence to work residence. Having a job and residence in Spain enjoys the same obligations and rights as ordinary Spaniards. You can apply for permanent residence in Spain if you have worked and lived continuously for five years.
