Newcomers on probation are free labor. Why does the company exploit new employees so much?
Because I have written many articles about the workplace, many people have asked me questions about submitting resumes, interviewing, applying for jobs and practicing. Today this article is about how to be an intern.
In fact, strictly speaking, internship and probation are different, and some people will be confused. Internship usually means that students go to work in an employer before graduation (such as winter and summer vacations). At this time, the employer will not sign a labor contract with you, and can terminate the internship at any time according to your performance. Under normal circumstances, wages are paid by the day or by working hours, and there is no five insurances and one gold.
In some companies, campus recruitment started very early. You completed the recruitment in the autumn one year before graduation and signed a tripartite agreement (students, schools and employers). In this case, you can also work in the employer, which is also an internship period, because you haven't graduated and haven't got a diploma. The tripartite agreement has a certain binding effect on both students and employers, similar to the offer of social recruitment. In principle, after graduation, students can join the employer directly as fresh graduates without internship. If a student signs a tripartite agreement with the employer, but does not go to the employer after graduation, or the employer does not allow the student to join the job, it is a breach of contract.
As fresh graduates, they will sign a labor contract when they join the company, and then they will be transferred to a probation period, which usually takes three months to six months. The probation period is also the time for the employer to inspect you. During this period, if the probation period is terminated, generally no compensation is needed, only one week to one month's notice is required. So we can see that Guan Juer in Ode to Joy is actually on probation, not strictly speaking, because she has graduated. You can't become a regular employee until you pass the probation period. The probation period is not only for fresh graduates, but also for employees recruited by social organizations, but generally the probation period is three months.
Therefore, as a student in school, you need to go through several stages: intern job interview, internship, campus recruitment, freshman entry, probation period, and finally to formal employees. Many people don't have internships at school, but they can become full members through campus recruitment and probation, so internship is not a necessary stage for fresh graduates to apply for jobs.
However, with the severe employment situation, the pressure to find a job is increasing, and internship experience may also add weight to campus recruitment and probation period. Internship is not only a shortcut to enter your favorite company, but also a way to gain relevant work experience before graduation. The internship experience of big companies will have great advantages in campus recruitment, and if you do well in internship, you may even skip campus recruitment and sign a tripartite agreement with the company directly.

Interns' positions may be temporary, related to the employment needs of the department, and may not be as cyclical as the campus recruitment of fresh graduates. So you should pay attention to the recruitment information on the website of your favorite company. Because interns are not formal jobs, such recruitment information usually does not appear on various professional recruitment websites. Some schools' forums, practice monks, street nets and other websites will also have recruitment information for internship positions. Also, if you know seniors, friends and relatives, you might as well ask them if their company has internship opportunities.
Internships are usually jobs that are in urgent need of employment and have no final employment security, so the recruitment conditions will be relaxed appropriately. Generally, larger companies have requirements for freshmen recruited on campus, such as schools, majors and academic qualifications. If the company is not listed, there is no interview opportunity at all. So you must cherish the opportunity to enter a big company for internship through internship, because this company may not even go to your school for recruitment.
Interviews for internship positions are usually relatively simple, and will not go through many rounds like campus recruitment or social recruitment. Business position supervisors may only need one round of interview, and the number of applicants for the same position is usually less than that for campus recruitment, so the probability of passing the interview will be greater, so we must grasp it well.
If you are a college student, I don't recommend you to work part-time as a restaurant waiter, distribute leaflets and deliver takeout. It's no use putting these work experiences on your resume. Unless you really can't find an internship related to your major, and you especially need living expenses, you might as well spend your time studying and improving yourself.

After passing the internship interview, you can basically enter the internship period soon. As an intern, you must pay special attention to your mentality during your internship. Your work attitude can easily affect your subsequent stay.
Always remember that you are only an intern, not a probationary period for fresh graduates, so the work that can be arranged for you is very limited. Even because there is no company account, a lot of work can't be done. Some companies do not arrange interns to do important work for information security reasons. On the other hand, you haven't graduated and signed a labor contract. Why should I give you an important job? Who is responsible for the accident?
Therefore, the first thing to adjust the mentality is that the intern's job seems to be to do odd jobs, run errands and do some simple and trivial things, without technical content and challenges. Imagine, if you are a full-time employee with strong business ability, how can I arrange these things for you? You are an intern who doesn't know the situation yet, and you are a nobody. I can only arrange these things for you first. What you have to do is not to exclude these jobs, but to consider how to do simple things to the extreme, improve efficiency, and make your supervisor and mentor realize that your ability is not limited to this, and then it is possible to arrange higher-level jobs for you.
The second mentality to be adjusted is how much money you have to do. Maybe the internship salary is not high, but eating three meals is not enough. If you calculate your own efforts and returns, the employing department will naturally feel something. You should regard the internship as an important opportunity for you to become a regular employee. After you get the internship, you have more performance time than your classmates. A few months' internship can better show your hard work, studious, diligent and interpersonal skills than just a few rounds of campus recruitment interviews. As I said before, the job that may be arranged for you is relatively simple and anyone can do it. There is no reason to pay you the same salary as a regular employee. Moreover, the company's training for you, the guidance of your tutor, and the internship experience on your resume are all values.
The third mentality to adjust is that everyone is busy, as if no one cares about your work. Some internet companies, or busy departments, may really pay less attention to interns, mainly because everyone has too many things to do and they have endless things to do. They work overtime every day, how can they care about the simple things at hand? What you have to do is not complain that no one cares about you and no one teaches you. The company is not a school, and the tutor is not a class teacher. They have their own delivery tasks and KPIs to be completed every month. As an adult, you must first learn to manage yourself. Self-management is to do the work assigned to you well first. When finished, you can find a tutor or supervisor to check. Even if they don't have time, you should be patient. If your work is really important, they will naturally give you good guidance. After finishing the work at hand, take the initiative to ask the supervisor and tutor if there is anything else you can help, even printing, running errands and setting up the conference room, which will deepen others' goodwill towards you. Without you, I have to learn by myself. All kinds of information, product functions, competing products, industry trends, etc. As long as you are careful, the manager of the company can always improve yourself.
The fourth mentality to be adjusted is that the interpersonal relationship in the workplace is complex, as if you are looked down upon by others. I think most interns with this mentality are blx themselves. No one will look down on people who work hard. See if you are the kind of naive, careless, unpunctual, lifeless person who makes melodramatic remarks in the circle of friends all day. I can say for sure that everyone likes optimistic, smiling and proactive young people. The supervisor who can decide whether you stay or not wants more such people on the team. For ordinary colleagues, interns may leave soon, and it is unlikely that they will really become colleagues, so it is human nature not to manage relationships with care, so don't entangle.
The adjustment of the above mentality is also applicable to the probationary period when fresh graduates just join the work.

As for how you should behave during your internship to win the favor of employers, it is difficult to have a consistent standard. I have written some articles about how to work hard, which may be helpful. Welcome to have a look. At the same time, I recommend an American TV series Grey's Intern and a movie The Devil Wearing Prada, both of which are related to interns and belong to inspirational TV series.
If you perform well during the internship, it is possible to sign a tripartite agreement directly, so that you can join the job directly as a fresh student after graduation and enter the probation period. During the internship, the evaluation of your supervisor, tutor, colleagues and other team members, the quality of your work output, work attitude and efficiency will all affect your stay. Sometimes there may be several interns working together, so it goes without saying that you must be in a competitive relationship.
There may be many reasons for not being retained in the end. If you are really excellent but not retained, it is likely that the recruitment index of fresh graduates in the department has run out. But in most cases, the department is still willing to keep diligent and enterprising interns. After all, it has been checked for months. Be grateful if you are not retained in the end. After all, internship experience can be written into your resume, which can increase your chips for subsequent applications. You can even ask the dean and tutor to write a letter of recommendation for you. If you don't behave badly, I think they will all be willing.
In short, no matter what the result is, don't feel that the company seems to owe you something for looking for your internship, as if it is using cheap labor, as if your efforts have not been rewarded. First of all, you have to ask yourself if you are really serious when you have a good performance for several months. Don't feel that the workplace is complicated and the society is unfair because of an internship experience. You still have a long way to go.
