Is there any future in working in a translation company?
Hello, I am Zha Hongyu, a freelance English translator. I have been a translator for 6 years. Let me share my opinions.
If you are a top scholar, whether you have a future depends on your own ability. , professional qualities, etc. The income of English/Japanese translators mainly depends on level and experience; resources and connections also have a certain impact on income;
The income of junior translators is mostly 3,000-8,000 yuan/month
The monthly income of mid-level translators is generally 8,000 to 12,000 yuan/month
The annual income of senior translators is generally between 150,000 and 300,000 yuan/month
Approximate income The corresponding level is like this, and it also depends on the city, the nature of the unit, etc.
If you get the CATTI 2 interpretation and translation certificate, it is basically equivalent to entering the door of professional translation. The United Nations Translator Qualification Certificate UNLPP is also good, especially the higher-level P2 and P3 certificates (P1 is relatively less difficult); if you have a master's degree from the School of Translation and Interpretation of famous domestic foreign language universities such as Beijing Foreign Language University/Shanghai Foreign Language University/Guangdong Foreign Language School, etc., do The starting point for translation is also good; the eighth-level professional certificate is more valuable, but there may still be a long way to go before becoming a qualified translator. Of course, there is still a lot to learn and improve in the future. It is not easy to grow into a professional translator worthy of the name. It requires more dedication, effort, and persistence. Translation, whether oral or written, is very hard, and you may have to work overtime from time to time. It is difficult for ordinary undergraduates to really get started without three to five years of accumulation and study after graduation.
The translation industry is currently extremely polarized, and it will be even more so in the future. High-level translators will become better and better, and prices will continue to rise. Low-level "translators" (let's call them "translators") will be reduced to leeks, harvested one after another by the market. After putting in a lot of energy and time, the income earned will be difficult to support their families (the unit price of "leeks" is generally not high). More than 150 yuan/thousand words). Therefore, you must improve your professional quality and literacy, improve service levels and translation quality, and move towards the mid-to-high end.
I personally work as an English translator, and my income is not high. I have been working for more than 6 years, and my income is 12-15K/month (in 2018, located in Ji'an, Jiangxi), for your reference.
