How to join the Chinese National Track and Field Team

The selection of athletes for the national track and field team should meet the following conditions:

(1) Love the Communist Party of China and love socialism.

(2) Abide by disciplines and laws and abide by the Athletes’ Code.

(3) Sports performance meets the following standards:

1. Those who achieved the top 8 in the Olympic Games and World Track and Field Championships in the previous year.

2. Those who won the Asian Games championship in the previous year.

3. Those who set Asian or above records in national or above competitions in the previous year.

4. Those whose sports performance in the previous year entered the top 20 in the world rankings of the previous year.

5. Those whose sports performance in the previous year entered the top 30 in the world rankings of the previous year, 5 people will be selected for each category.

6. Those whose sports performance in the previous year entered the top 40 in the world rankings of the previous year, 4 people will be selected for each category.

7. Those whose sports performance in the previous year entered the top 50 in the world rankings of the previous year, 2 people will be selected for each category.

8. For those whose sports performance in the previous year entered the top 70 in the world rankings of the previous year, one person will be selected for each category.

9. For projects that do not meet the above standards (1)-(8), if the score of the person with the highest level in the project is higher than the highest score in the country in the previous year, the best person will be selected.

10. The above items (1) to (9) apply to Olympic events, excluding relay events.

11. For non-Olympic events, two people will be selected on a merit basis if they are among the top 20 in the world rankings.

Athletes’ selection into the national track and field team shall be based on the results of international and domestic competitions.

Extended information:

National track and field team coaches and athletes must do the following:

(1) Win glory for the country and make more contributions to the cause of track and field.

(2) Submit to the management of the National Sports Commission. When there is a conflict between national tasks and local tasks, the national tasks must be obeyed first.

(3) Complete the training tasks and performance indicators determined by the National Sports Commission, and conscientiously implement training and overseas visits.

(4) Dress according to the Chinese Athletics Association’s Foreign Equipment Management Regulations.

(5) Without the approval of the Chinese Athletics Association, no person or unit may participate in sponsorship, press releases, negotiations and other social activities in the name of the national track and field team (Chinese Track and Field Team).
