Why is the vertical axis wind turbine less efficient than the horizontal axis wind turbine?

1. Vertical axis wind turbines have the following advantages:

(1) The generator and gearbox can be installed on the ground for easy maintenance and repair;

(2) the tail and yaw system are not needed to drive the paddle blades;

(3) The tower is simple in design;

Secondly, vertical axis wind turbines have the following disadvantages:

(1) is inefficient, because the blades run on the same circumference, and it does not produce torque;

(2) It is difficult to control the speed when speeding;

(3) it is difficult to start automatically;

(4) The overall efficiency of vertical axis wind turbines (including generators) is low.

Summary: The horizontal axis wind turbine has a long history of development, and has completely reached the working production, with simple structure and higher efficiency than the vertical axis wind turbine. Up to now, all wind turbines used for power generation are horizontal axis, and there is no commercial vertical axis wind turbine.
