Chongqing Institute of Mobile Communication is located in Hechuan University Town, Chongqing. It is a full-time private undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education and headed by the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission. It is a pilot institution for the reform in Universities of Applied Sciences, China.

In August 2000, with the approval of Chongqing Education Commission, Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications and Chongqing Yitong Industrial Corporation jointly established Yitong College of Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications. In February, 2006, Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications was renamed Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications Mobile Communication College was renamed Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications Mobile Communication College.

From June 5438 to February 2020, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was agreed that Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications would be restructured into Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and the establishment of Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications would be abolished.
