The Life of the Characters in Arthur Evans' Works

Evans likes to study ancient coins since he was a child and is keen on collecting cultural relics. After graduating from Oxford University, I went to study at the University of G? ttingen in Germany. He has a strong academic accomplishment and enjoys a high reputation for a long time.

1883, Evans went to Greece and made a special trip to visit the home of archaeologist Heinrich Sheriman. Evans was amazed at the Mycenae gems, decorations and weapons that Sheriman excavated from the pit tomb, especially the seals with patterns, which fascinated him. In the process of playing with it, he found that the symbols and patterns on these seals did not seem to come from mainland Greece. Some symbols look like Egyptian hieroglyphics, while most patterns are marine life. These symbols and patterns do not seem to be the kind that can be seen in Mycenae culture.

Faced with these mysterious seals, Evans speculated that these Mycenae artifacts appeared before Homer's time. Then, there must be some ancient culture in the Aegean Sea, which is the incubator of Mycenae civilization.

In the following years, Evans found more such seals from some architectural relics in the eastern Mediterranean and learned that these seals came from Crete. Evans believes that the legendary city of Knossos is in Kefina on the north coast of Crete, where Minos' palace is located.
