What does TOEFL mean?

TOEFL means "English test as a foreign language".

The full name of TOEFL is Test of English as a foreign language, which is an English proficiency test organized by educational testing service (ETS) and used to evaluate the English proficiency of students from non-English-speaking countries, including listening, speaking, reading and writing. The examination time is 4 hours, which is divided into two parts: IBT(Internet-Based Test), that is, network test, and PBT(Paper-Based Test), that is, paper test. TOEFL scores are widely recognized around the world, which is one of the admission requirements for many universities and colleges to recruit international students.

TOEFL is mainly used to measure students' ability to use English in an academic environment.
