It is a national "Basic Capacity Building Project for Universities in the Midwest" and a "National First-class University Building University" in Hubei Province. It is also a university jointly established by Hubei Provincial People's Government, China Petroleum and Natural Gas Corporation, China Petrochemical Corporation, China Offshore Oil Corporation, Hubei Provincial People's Government, China People's Government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
