Beijing 2020 Waste Classification Management Measures

The new Beijing Municipal Domestic Waste Management Regulations, which came into effect on May 1 2020, incorporated domestic waste management into grassroots social governance.

The "Regulations" clearly stipulates that:

1. Sub-district offices and township people's governments shall incorporate domestic waste management into grassroots social governance, and organize and guide residents' committees and villagers' committees to incorporate waste classification requirements into residents' conventions or village rules and regulations.

2, the city, district government and its relevant departments, street offices, township governments should support and encourage volunteers, voluntary service organizations and other social organizations to carry out activities such as domestic waste classification publicity and demonstration, to participate in domestic waste management.

3. At the same time, support environmental sanitation, circular economy, property management, tourist hotels, catering and cooking, domestic service, commercial retail and other related industry associations. Formulate industry self-discipline norms, carry out industry training and evaluation, and participate in and promote domestic waste management.

4. Settings of trash can

The "Regulations" distinguish three types of areas: office or production and business premises, residential quarters, natural villages and other public places, and put forward detailed setting requirements respectively.

(1) For residential quarters and natural villages, it is required to set garbage collection containers such as kitchen waste in groups, and at least one garbage trading point should be set with recyclable and harmful waste collection containers.

(2) Party and government organs, enterprises and institutions, social organizations and other units of the office or production and business premises, should be set up according to the needs of four types of collection containers.

(3) Other public places: recyclable garbage collection containers can be set up as required.
